- 1958: Russia's Boris Pasternak turned down the Nobel prize for
literature; Dr. F. Mason Sones became the first doctor to perform a
coronary angiogram.
- 1966: The National Organization for Women was formed.
- 1969: The U.S. Supreme Court ordered an immediate end to school
desegregation.
- 1974: President Ford signed into law a bill banning discrimination
on the basis of sex or marital status in credit applications.
