                - 1760: The first Jewish prayer books in the U.S. were printed.
                - 1775: The Continental Congress approved a measure banning blacks
                  from serving in the army.
                - 1814: The first plastic surgery was performed in England.
                - 1824: The first steam locomotive was introduced.
                - 1864: In the Civil War, forces under Union Gen. Samuel Curtis
                  defeated Confederate Gen. Stirling Price's troops in Missouri.
                - 1915: In New York City, 25,000 women demonstrated, demanding the
                  right to vote.
                - 1944: In World War II, the Battle of Leyte Gulf began.
                - 1946: The United Nations General Assembly met for the first time in
